Edward "The Black Prince"

In 1346, King Edward III's son, Edward, at the age of 16, led his father's English forces in the Battle of Crecy, defeating the french and turning the tide of the 100 Year's War in favour of the English.

Wearing black armour, Edward was an imposing sight and was dubbed, by the French, as

"The Black Prince"

King Edward rewarded his son by giving him the principality of Aquitane, however, the prince was a far better warrior than ruler, which, combined with his ill health, resulted in his return to England, where he died before his father, thus nevert becoming King. However, kPrince Edward's son did ascend to the throne as Richard II, a rather disliked character who, eventually was excuted.
